For as much as we have accomplished since Prop 8 manipulated voters to remove constitutional rights from Gay and Lesbian couples, we still have more to do! by Ari Gutierrez

Amigas y Amigos,

An important part of our Lgbt Equality movement community work in the Latino and LGBTQ community is to
"build our base" of people who understand and support our mission.

For as much as we have accomplished since Prop 8 manipulated voters to remove constitutional rights from Gay and Lesbian couples, we still have more to do!

We are at over 50% support by Latinos and Catholics. We have won our case for equality at every level of the judicial system and the US Supreme Court is next. We have gained the mainstream support for immigration parity for LGBTQ bi-national couples and the support of elected officials, including LGBTQ Latinos, that now have challenged the deportation system on the safety and dignity of our community especially for those who are Transgender.

Still, we have over 50% homelessness among LGBTQ youth and the symptoms of homophobia prevail in our community including a lack of information and accessible resources to address mental health issues for LGBTQ youth AND their families.

The Latino Equality Alliance is working in our own Latino communities to change the status quo. To challenge homophobia where it lives and to advance policy on the federal and local level that will great communities that are supportive and where LGBTQ people can thrive, maintain the family relationships that we value so highly, and become educated, healthy and truly proud members of our communities.

And if you are in Los Angeles and can come out to meet our leaders please do so! Our membership "base building" team, lead by Mr. Eddie Martinez , will host a Fat Tuesday party on the eve of Ash Wednesday at MJ's in Silverlake.

Please support our efforts in any way you can!
